021 Up the Lazy River
I've been pondering where to walk today; I had a place in mind then realized due to its topography I wouldn't have good light - it's better there in the afternoon.
So we went to a new spot UP the river from our previous walks.

The sun is just coming over Mission Hills.

Not expecting too much action, I started to look for colors and textures of the grass. I prefer photos like this for my big screen wallpaper, as opposed to photos from Apple or Microsoft.

Light coming in at a low angle really helps illuminate the fluffy flowering plants

One would never notice this sort of thing in the middle of the day, only when the light is right.

The light has a different impact on the water. I wonder if the birds see all these details the way the camera does?

On the other side of the road we found a nice color-coordinated flag / sign combo.

The herons also stood, and they watched us,

but the ducks didn't.

The other side of the road, where high-voltage comes out of the sky and enters the ground.

We stood watching the ducks, when a middle-aged man (dressed for work) and a woman (in pajamas) got out of a Chevy motor home near us, whose plates proclaimed "LUV SHCK".

More fluff.

I noticed this perplexed bird standing on a curb, who kept seeming to ask "Should I cross the road? Or not?"

He remained there for 3-4 minutes while we watched, then he apparently decided "Not!" and ambled down the shoulder.

The river grass and trees were cleared out here a couple years ago so the railroad could add a second set of tracks. They've just removed all the construction barricades and are now restoring the habitat or something.

We stood and watched as two guys stood and watched. Nothing to see really, except the grass slowly growing under the railroad tracks.

Aha! THAT'S WHY there was a warning sign back alongside the pathway.

This bird was not afraid of the buried cables and their high voltage. He's on an insulated branch.

Back to the river, where we found a two-species team, working the tributary and the bank together.

The frontage road along the river looks very busy because my telephoto lens has compressed a mile of road into this image.

Good thing I have on my Magnetic Resistance watch!

They kissed passionately.
He got in a car, and drove off, while she climbed back inside the love shack...

Embarrassed, we walked on.
